Windows

1) RIGHT mouse click on the 'My Computer' icon select 'map network drive' from the menu

2) Pick a letter of your choice for 'Drive'. It doesn't matter what you choose, but it usually is best if it's lower down in the alphabet (like S or W).

3) Type in the complete PATH of your network drive in the 'folder' area. It needs to be in this format: \\server.sas.upenn.edu\sharename

4) Check the box that says Reconnect at Login.

5) Click the words that say 'connect using a different username' In the box that appears. Type your user name and password that you use to access the SERVER (i.e., cattell, SSClion). For SAS servers, you may have to use the format "SAS\yourusername" Click OK. Click FINISH on the main page.

If it works, a window will appear showing the directory. You can then access the drive anytime from the drive list by double clicking My Computer.

OSX

1) In the Finder, Click the Go menu and click 'Connect to server'

2) In the server address field, type in "smb:" then with no spaces, the full server name in this format: //server.sas.upenn.edu/sharename

An example would be: smb://ssclion.ssc.upenn.edu/psyback$/yourusername

3) Type in your user name and password for the server. The drive icon should appear on the desktop.

4) You will need to remap to the server if you log off or shut down. To make this easy, create a copy of the Server icon in the Dock. Then just click on it to be prompted for your password.
