1) You must know either the network name (i.e. james.psych.upenn.edu) or the IP address of the printer. You will also need the model number of the printer.
2) Go to start menu/printers and faxes
3) Click add a printer the printer wizard starts
4) When asked, select that you are adding a LOCAL printer. You can unclick the 'automatically detect' box.
5) On the next screen select 'Create a new port' from the pulldown box select 'standard TCP/IP port'. Click next.
6) Type in either the IP address or the full network name (i.e. james.psych.upenn.edu). If the port is not found, please check to see if the printer is on, and double check the IP address or that you are entering the FULL network name.
7) The next screen, select a printer driver that matches your model from the list. If your model is not listed, you may need to download a driver from the manufacturer's website. Sometimes a close model is good enough, especially with HP's.
8) In the name your printer screen, give your printer any name you'd like. Also choose if you want it to be your default printer.
9) On the Printer Sharing screen, make sure DO NOT share the printer is selected. This is very important!
10) On the last screen, go ahead and print a test page to make sure everything works OK.
