What courses satisfy the 200/300 level elective in Psychology?

These change from semester to semester. The courses that satisfy the Minor are described on the Minor web page. If you are unsure if a specific course meets the requirement, email the Consumer Psychology Chair. Please DO NOT simply ask for a list of courses that meet the requirement. Please check the Psychology Department's web page for a list of courses. Once you have a course in mind, if you're unsure about it, then you should send an email to the Consumer Psychology Chair, who will confirm if a particular course satisfies the requirement. I heard that petitions are needed to register for advanced courses in Psychology. Is this true?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT REGISTERING FOR 200/300 LEVEL COURSES IS ON THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT'S WEB PAGE. CURRENTLY, THAT INFORMATION IS HERE, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS INFORMATION WILL MOVE FROM YEAR TO YEAR. IN ANY CASE, IT IS *YOUR* RESPONSIBILITY TO FOLLOW THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT'S RULES FOR ENROLLING IN 200/300 LEVEL COURSES. PLEASE **DO NOT** EMAIL THE CONSUMER PSYCHOLOGY CHAIR AFTER THE PETITION DEADLINE HAS PASSED BECAUSE YOU MISSED THE DEADLINE TO DO THE REQUIRED PAPERWORK FOR THE 200/300 LEVEL COURSE. THESE EMAILS WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. [back to top]

I'm taking courses abroad (or at another University). Can the count for the Minor?

Please follow the usual College guidelines. If you are taking a course elsewhere, your FIRST STEP must be to get it approved by the Psychology Department. After you have done that, please contact the Consumer Psychology Minor Chair, indicate that the Department has approved it, and then the Chair will either approve it or not for the Minor. Do CGS courses count?

Yes. CGS courses count in the same way that College courses do. [back to top]

Does declaring the Consumer Psychology Minor potentially affect the total number of c.u.'s I'll need to graduate?

Yes. Remember that SAS requires that you take 16 courses in the College beyond those in your Major. Let's say that you're a BBB Major. You must complete 18.5 c.u. for the Major, 16 (non-Major) SAS c.u.'s, and 4 c.u.'s from Wharton to complete the Minor. The impact of this will depend on the number of c.u.'s required for your Major. If you think this might an issue for you, please note that it is possible to petition to have some of your non-college courses count toward the 16 c.u. SAS requirement, though, as with any petition, there is no guarantee. [back to top]
