Penn Psychology Undergraduate Program: Information about
Transfer Credit
Receiving Transfer Credit
for Psychology Courses Taken Away From Penn 1. Courses taken in a Penn-approved Study Abroad program may be approved for credit in Psychology. These courses may be reviewed for credit in two ways: a. Any course already listed in the Study Abroad Database as previously approved for credit in Psychology is automatically approved, both for College students in general and for the major. There is no need to bring these courses to the Psychology Department for approval. b. Courses not listed in the Database
must be approved on an individual basis. This is done by bringing the course
syllabus (not just the description), including the week by week topics,
and the name of the textbook, together with the appropriate College form to Claire Ingulli in Rm. B24, Solomon Lab Bldg. It is strongly recommended that
approval be sought for these courses before actually taking them.
2. Courses that are taken by transfer students prior to their enrollment at Penn may receive transfer credit. This is done by bringing the course syllabus (not just the description), including the week-by-week topics, and the name of the textbook, together with the appropriate College form, to Claire Ingulli in Rm. B24, Solomon Lab Bldg. Courses Not Eligible for Transfer Credit 1. No course taken in another department at Penn can be counted as equivalent to a Psychology Department course. 2. Effective Fall of 2003, no Psychology course taken at another U.S. institution will be eligible for credit in Psychology. This means that students currently enrolled in Penn may not receive Psychology credit for courses taken at other institutions over the summer months. It also means that, with the exception of transfer students (see above), no incoming student may receive credit for a psychology course taken before arriving at Penn. Students who have taken the Psychology AP test and received a grade of 5 can receive a waiver for Psyc 001 (they will not receive credit for Psyc 001) and are allowed to enroll directly into any 100-level lecture course without taking Psyc 001. The AP waiver does not count toward the 13 courses required for the Psyc major or toward the 6 courses required for the Psyc minor. Students who use the AP waiver must therefore take one additional Psychology Department course. This policy applies to all undergraduate students.
