The
John P. Sabini Undergraduate Award
for the Study of Emotion,
Character, and Responsibility
This prize is awarded to a senior psychology major with an impressive
undergraduate record and a specific interest in social psychology,
broadly defined. Preference will be given to applicants with
demonstrated interests in the study of emotion, social motives, moral
action and/or character from the perspective of social psychology,
evolutionary psychology, analytic philosophy, moral philosophy, or the
philosophy of mind.
Each applicant should submit the following materials to the Chair of
the
Psychology Department by the first day of Reading period of their
senior year:
1) A one-page cover letter stating why he
or she should be
considered for the award. Applications containing letters of more
than
one page will not be considered.
2) Current undergraduate
transcript. Both cumulative GPA and
course selection will be considered in determining the awardee.
3) An undergraduate paper on the topic of
emotion, social motives,
moral action and/or character from the perspective of social or
evolutionary psychology, analytic or moral philosophy or the philosophy
of mind. This paper should have been written to fulfill a course
requirement (e.g., term paper, independent research, honors thesis).
Please indicate the course the paper was written for, the semester it
was written, and the instructor of the course.
4) A short letter of recommendation from
the instructor for whom
the paper in 3) was written.
